Imagine being in custody in a jail that provides no onsite medical treatment for people. On May 8, 2025, I was in custody for approximately eight (8) hours in the Talbot County Jail (TCJ). I spoke with the inmates in custody in TCJ and they reported that when a medical concern is filed, they may see a doctor that month.
Some inmates complained that they would not be seen by medical staff for weeks after reporting an injury or illness.
I reported to the jail staff my medical concerns and it appeared that no one took note or even cared. I was provided with no medical screening by any medical staff or addressed any of my medical concerns. I was initially placed into a single cell with no camera visible for staff to view. Before I was fully processed in, I was placed in general population with everyone else. I was not properly classified or any health concerns addressed according to O.C.G.A 42-4-32 (c). The Eighth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution requires that that adequate medical care be provided to people in custody.
As for meals, no meals are prepared at the facility. The TCJ has contracted with a local restaurant to feed the inmates in custody. They provide the TCJ with a hot breakfast and a hot dinner. Sandwiches for lunch are unknown of its origin currently.
Inmates get no outside recreation time, and the recreation yard is indoors. The image(s) captured were gathered from a previous government Facebook page of the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office.

On a good note, the jail staff were polite and respectful.
