Inside The Walls of a Jail & Blueprint in Harris County Georgia

Inside The Walls of a Jail & Blueprint in Harris County Georgia

GT got a tour into the Harris County Jail. Sheriff Mike Jolly prides himself in the appearance and how inmates are cared for in Harris County Jail.

Georgia Transparency (GT) visited the Harris County Jail and met with Sheriff Mike Jolly. After some great conversation we began a tour of the Harris County Jail and what was found.

Accompanying GT was LTC Christie Webb and CPT Monte Hale. Both were very respectful, polite, and very knowledgeable. In GT’s opinion this is how a jail should be operated and should serve as a blueprint for other jails in Georgia to follow.

I met Carolyn, she is the manager of the Kitchen where the meals are prepared for the inmates. The kitchen appeared very well maintained and clean. Carolyn was professional, polite, and knowledgeable about her position. Sheriff Jolly’s brilliant idea to store past 72 hours of meals served in the freezer. This is to minimize any potential legal litigation if an inmate becomes ill from the food prepared.

The booking area was quiet, clean, and maintained. All cells reflected the image shown of the image I captured. Though the yard where inmates can be provided time outside was clean of debris, trash, and looked maintained.

The tower that overlooked the sections where inmates are housed was clean, quiet, and looked professional.

Currently under renovations there was a section to install newer technology, repaint, and overall refurbishment. New doors locks make it nearly impossible for anyone to get out of their cell(s). It was noted that renovations happen along with regular maintenance to keep the jail serviceable. Thus, eliminating the need for a new jail to be constructed and prolonging the overall life. This is of huge importance to the taxpayers.

The overall appearance inside the walls of the Harris County Jail were remarkable. This is how the tax money is being spent on the Harris County Jail portion. GT will give credit where credit is due. The Harris County Jail Staff & Sheriff Mike Jolly are doing a remarkable job for the people in my opinion.
