UPDATE - Former Public Official Sentenced to 12 Months’ Probation After Disorderly Conduct Against a Veteran

UPDATE - Former Public Official Sentenced to 12 Months’ Probation After Disorderly Conduct Against a Veteran

Charles “Red” Phillips was sentenced on March 17, 2025, for disorderly conduct against a veteran that took place on March 25, 2024, in front of Grantville City Hall. This includes all records relevant to Mr. Phillips sentence.

On March 25, 2024, Mr. Phillips (Red) attended and was voted to be on the Grantville Beautification Committee Board. Right after the meeting concluded Red charged Georgia Transparency (GT) (Russell Pickron) in front of city hall. This happened right after GT questioned another former Committee member about previous convictions. Pickron being a disabled combat veteran was threatened by Red for simply questioning government.

Russell Knight

Red was followed by Russell Knight across the grass in front of city hall, shouting that he was about to come put hands on. Both Red and Knight directed obscenities towards GT in what we believe to be an intimidation attempt brought by the city of Grantville.

GT filed an arrest warrant against Red, and Magistrate Judge Robert Stokley heard the case and issued a warrant for Red for disorderly conduct. Red turned himself in at the Coweta County jail and was processed before being released on an O.R. bond.

On March 17, 2025, Red pleaded Nolo Contendere to the charge of disorderly conduct. The judge ordered the following sentence according to the Solicitors Office.

  • Serve 12 months on probation (it will go to non-reporting upon completion of the terms listed below)
  • Perform 5 days of community service
  • Pay a fine of $680
  • Complete an Anger Management course within 6 months
  • Have no harmful or harassing contact with Russell Pickron

This appears to be a continuation of if Grantville public officials don’t like what you have to say, they may retaliate with threats of physical violence. However, this didn’t go too well for former committee member Red.

After doing some digging, we found that Mr. Knight owns and operates Ink Drip Studios in Grantville, Georgia.

UPDATE: March 24, 2025.
