A proven public servant focused on affordability, transparency, and accountability.

Selma Cody for Grantville City Council, Post 3

Selma Cody isn’t new to Grantville leadership. She previously served on the City Council (1990–1993) and stepped in as interim mayor in 1991–1992. That experience matters now more than ever as families face higher bills and worry about where their tax dollars go.

What Selma will tackle—day one

  • Affordability first. In 2024 the City noticed a 9.08% property-tax increase, moving the tentative millage to 5.228—about $43.50/year on a $250,000 home. Selma will push to slow the growth in taxes and fees and prioritize needs over nice-to-haves. grantvillega.org
  • Utility relief & clarity. City rate sheets show fixed monthly charges that hit every bill (e.g., $27 base for sewer; $25 for the first trash can). Selma will press for clear, public dashboards that show costs, revenues, and where savings can lower monthly bills. grantvillega.org
  • Follow the money. She will back independent financial reviews, line-item transparency, and regular public briefings so residents can see how each budget decision affects their wallet.
  • Teamwork on council. Selma will work with Councilor Dee Berry and others to get straight answers on spending and to keep the focus on residents—not special interests.

Contrast: the incumbent’s record & platform

Councilmember Casey Evans currently holds Post 3 and was elected Mayor Pro Tem for 2024. She’s campaigned on “revitalization,” “supporting business and recreation,” and “smart infrastructure.” Public records show she’s been present and active in meetings (making or seconding motions), including during the 2024 budget/millage hearing period. grantvillega.org+2grantvillega.org+2

What’s missing is a clear, documented plan to reduce costs for residents. During 2024, the city advanced a millage increase after the required hearings and set adoption for Aug 19, 2024. If infrastructure expansion continues without offsets, residents could keep seeing pressure on taxes/fees. Selma’s position is simple: show the numbers first, cut waste second, then build what we can actually afford. grantvillega.org
